Pat Farrell goes Tomorrowland
Mazda announced the six winners of the #MazdaSounds Live Showdown, the final round of the “Mazda Drives: The Sound Of Tomorrow” DJ competition, which ended moments ago in Barcelona’s Marina de Badalona. The happy young artists from across Europe will be heading to Tomorrowland 2016 in July for what is likely their biggest gig yet: a 60-minute set live on the Mazda Sound Of Tomorrow Island stage alongside some of the biggest stars in the industry.
All the winners agreed that this is the opportunity of a lifetime. Swift-D (Belgium) is a future house DJ who was unable to get a regular visitor ticket to Tomorrowland before they sold out. THIS IS CROB (the Netherlands) likes most the energy DJ-ing gives him and the creativity involved. “It’s an amazing chance,” he said. “I’m really honoured to have a shot to play at the holy grail.” DJ Paula Serra (Spain), meanwhile, started as a saxophone, flute and piano player who then began a couple of years ago mixing her own music. DJ Pat Farrell (Switzerland) knows what it’s like to perform in front of crowds after playing in front of some 900,000 (!) techno fans at the Street Parade in Zurich. Miss Ghyss (Switzerland) is looking forward to the special ambience at her first major festival. Bodalia (UK), finally, began mixing at the tender age of 12. He currently juggles music with his university studies. “I can’t really put it into words,” he commented. “This competition has already opened up so many doors.”
They were chosen by the six-head jury, made up of representatives from Mazda and Tomorrowland along with Belgian star DJ Lost Frequencies (a.k.a. Felix De Laet).
The final round of the contest featured 20 DJs, each of whom played a 15-minute set today in Barcelona. Prior to that, the finalists took part in a series of workshops at nearby Mazda Space, the company’s European culture and event hub. The session focused on topics like mixing techniques and self-marketing for DJs. De Laet, who is also Mazda’s ambassador for the Mazda Drives: The Sound Of Tomorrow campaign, hosted the former.
Mazda is the exclusive automotive partner to Tomorrowland for the second year running. It’s a relationship fused by a desire to deliver life-enriching experiences. After prevailing from among more than 1,000 entrants to the contest, which kicked off back in March, the next step for the winners is to prepare to take the stage at one of the world’s biggest music festivals. Tomorrowland 2016 will be held in Boom, Belgium on 22-24 July.
